Our obstetricians deliver at Waukesha Memorial Hospital and Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital which both have Neonatal Intensive Care Units.

Neonatal intensive care services team of experienced neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners provides advanced care for premature and critically ill newborns.

Located in ProHealth Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Waukesha County’s only Level III NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) provides comprehensive care for infants born as early as 22 weeks and those weighing less than a pound. It’s the highest level of neonatal care available in the county.

The Level II NICU in ProHealth Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital offers specialized care for infants born at 32 weeks or later, who weigh 1500 grams (3.3 pounds) or more, and those with shorter-term health needs.

Developmental Follow-up Services

NICU graduates are referred to the developmental follow-up team to receive the attention and expertise they need when transitioning from the NICU to a pediatrician’s care.

Premature babies usually do not develop at the same rate as other children and are at risk for growth, feeding, respiratory, cognitive, speech, hearing, or vision impairments as they grow. Often, these challenges can be overcome through early and persistent intervention.

The team evaluates, monitors, and provides the screenings, assessments, interventions, and referrals needed to improve both short- and long-term outcomes for these high-risk children. Education on the physical, emotional, and nutritional needs that are unique to NICU babies is also provided. Working collaboratively with the child’s pediatrician, team members connect the child to resources for follow-up care to ensure growth and development is progressing appropriately.
