Dilation and Curettage Procedure

Dilation and Curettage (D&C) may be used to diagnose and treat multiple conditions that affect the uterus—these include symptoms such as abnormal bleeding.

A sample of tissue can be taken to be examined under a microscope by this procedure where the cervix is opened or dilated, and a thin instrument is inserted into the uterus. The tissue from the inside of the uterus is removed using this instrument (curettage).
